The Platters and many more!
After being away for many years, Voyage once again returns to the Stage.
Voyage was a popular group in the Southeastern New England area from 1974 - 1988. They played cover music for their first 3 sets and would end the night with their Rock 'n' Roll Revival Show, which they became known for.
After the group ended their 14 year tenure in 1988, they all remained friends and on different occasions would reform for a reunion. However, it had been a while since they had done so.
Then, in September of 2010, it all started back up again.
Bruce Kennedy the original Bass Guitarist of the group, who now resides in Florida, was planning on a visit to our area. He asked for the possibility of a Voyage Reunion.
The group had enough members to do the reunion, after a few phone calls. Wayne also invited his cousin
(Allan Duarte) to join the group with his vocal ability. The group was able to secure a gig at the Washington Club where they had played for many years. The club welcomed the opportunity for a Voyage Reunion.
It was time to scramble. With Bruce coming to our area for only one week, and not being able to bring his equipment with him, the members were able to find him a Bass Guitar and Amp for him to do the job. With limited time available to them, the group was able to only get two short rehearsals in before going out live.
With no advertisement, and by just word of mouth only, the Washington Club had a very successful night and so did the group. It was like riding a bike. Voyage came on stage and performed the Oldies like they had never been away, to the delight of the many people, new and old, who attended their performance. The audience was spellbound, applauded after each and every song, and would often even give standing ovations.
After the performance, whispers of Voyage doing this more often were abound.
In February, Voyage was asked to play a
Buffet Style Dinner and Dance at the Sixth Bristol Club. Something new that the club was starting to do on Sunday evenings. Bruce returning to Florida, and so the group found themselves in need of a new Bass player. We invited Larry Ferreira, who was the original lead guitarist/vocalist with a former oldies group called The Graduates. Larry accepted the offer and Allan Duarte was asked to continue with the group.
Voyage
played to a sold out audience at
The Sixth Bristol Club
The crowd went wild! By the end of the night, they were chanting, "we want you back!" "we want you back!”
Voyage accepted an offer from the club to play a Friday and Saturday in March. Again, both nights were very successful.
So for now, while maintaining a limited schedule, Voyage has decided to come back and perform again.
